Artist in Residence Evgeni Sviridov

In May, the Conservatorium van Amsterdam welcomes world-famous violinist Evgeny Sviridov as Artist in residence. He will give masterclasses and concerts on the theme of the Viennese classics, early Romantic style and Paganini. The masterclasses are open to violinists from both the Classical and Early Music Departments.

Evgeny Sviridov

Evgeny Sviridov is one of the leading baroque violinists in Europe nowadays. As both concertmaster and soloist he regularly performs in major concert venues and festivals in Europe: Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Philharmonie Köln, Musikverein Wien, Konzerthaus Wien and Berlin, and is invited to a famous festivals such as Bachfest in Leipzig, MA Festival in Brugge, Thuringer Bach Woche in Weimar, 'Haut Jura' in France, Potsdamer Festspiele Sans Souci, and Chiemsee Festival. Evgeny collaborated with well-known musicians: Andreas Scholl, René Jacobs, Kent Nagano, Vivica Genaux, Dmitry Sinkovsky, Dorothee Oberlinger, Midori Seiler, Erik Bosgraaf, Hiro Kurosaki and others.

Born in 1989 in St-Petersburg, Evgeny got his first education at the Conservatory there. While studying he had already become a laureate of major international competitions such as Menuhin Competition in Cardiff and Paganini Competition in Genova in 2008. In 2010 he joined a Bach Competition in Leipzig and got there a first prize. This prize persuaded him to turn to authentic ways of playing and to studying baroque more thoroughly. In 2016 he got a first prize and audience prize at Concours Corneille in Rouen, France; and in 2017 Evgeny won Brugge International Competition Musica Antiqua.

Since 2016 Evgeny has been living in Cologne and currently serves there as concertmaster of a famous baroque ensemble Concerto Köln, becoming one of the youngest musicians who have ever leaded this historical collective. Since 2018 he has been holding a teaching position for a baroque violin at the High School of Arts in Bremen. In 2014 together with his colleagues he organised baroque ensemble Ludus Instrumentalis, that made an important appearance on a baroque scene by winning Berlin Bach competition in 2015 and 'Brothers Grauns' Competition in 2016 in Germany. In 2020 they made a CD recording with Trio-Sonatas of J.G.Goldberg (label Ricercar).Among his solo CD recordings are Bach and Biber Sonatas (Genuin, 2011); Sonatas and Concertos by G.Tartini. This production on the label Ricercar got the Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik in 2019.

Olga Pashchenko

Olga Pashchenko (Moscow, 1986) performs worldwide as a soloist and chamber musician, as well as with orchestras. Since 2014, she has been artist in residence at the Beethoven Haus Bonn. Additionally, she is a frequent guest at various festivals, including the Utrecht Oude Muziek Festival, where she was artist in residence in 2014 and 2016.

In 2010, Olga Pashchenko graduated with honors from the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory, where she studied harpsichord with Olga Martynova, fortepiano and modern piano with Alexei Lubimov and organ with Alexei Shmitov. She continued her studies in the postgraduate programme with Alexei Lubimov (historical keyboard instruments) and Konstantin Zenkin (research work on the topic ‘Modern vision of the specifics of interpretation of keyboard music from 15th to 19th century’). In 2013 and 2014 she received her master degree in fortepiano and harpsichord respectively at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, where she studied with Richard Egarr and Thérèse de Goede.

Olga won numerous prizes at competitions throughout Europe, including the International Pianoforte Competition (2010) and the Harpsichord Competition (2012, second prize and audience prize) of the Musica Antiqua Festival Bruges, the First International Pianoforte Competition at Schloss Kremsegg (2011); First International Piano Competition ‘Hans von Bülow’ (2012); the International Harpsichord Competition of the Bach-Wettbewerb Leipzig (2014) (second prize and audience prize) and the International Fortepiano and Square Piano Geelvinck Competition Amsterdam (2014).

She has recorded several CD’s and her recordings are being broadcast by various radio and TV-programmes.
